The Golden State Valkyries victory celebration kicked off Wednesday morning in Oakland, with the team gathered for an event on the Oakland waterfront before hopping on a boat and heading over to San Francisco.
"These are great, phenomenal women!" Mayor Barbara Lee cheered at the Oakland event, wearing her own violet wig for the occasion.
"We're so proud of our champions!" Lee said. "Our bold, phenomenal women who have brought this to the Golden State... We're deeply grateful!"
On the SF side of the Bay, Mayor Daniel Lurie was among the crowd wearing lavender and purple on the Embarcadero awaiting the team's arrival — Lurie opted for a lavender flannel shirt — and the crowd was looking lively.
You can watch the festivities live on YouTube here, via ABC 7.
The Valkyries said they wanted to have a victory celebration that was unique to them, celebrating both their ties to Oakland and their practice space there, and their SF fans by splitting the festivities and arriving by boat — "commuting," as some players and coaches do, across the Bay.
The parade will then proceed down the Embarcadero.
