Massachusetts State Trooper Punched Out Cold in Bar Fight Fired

On Halloween night, a Boston woman met up with Michael Maguire, a man she told Boston police she had briefly dated, at a bar in the city’s South End neighborhood. But he was “too intoxicated,” she said, so she told him to go home to Quincy and went on with her night.

When she got home roughly three hours later, the 27-year-old now ex cop had allegedly climbed up a fire escape and fallen asleep in her bed, refusing to leave when she ordered him out. He was arrested by Boston Police officers and is scheduled to be arraigned on breaking and entering charges Tuesday.

Maguire had also been involved in a bar fight in Quincy with another trooper earlier this year, an incident that was captured on what became a viral video taken at an upscale eatery in a popular marina. The second trooper, Christopher Regan, 40, was seen pulling Maguire from a bar stool and punching him unconscious. He is also facing criminal charges for that off-duty incident.

Regan remains on paid administrative leave. Maguire has now been relieved of duty, MSP officials said Monday.

“When this incident came to our attention, the Massachusetts State Police immediately relieved Trooper McGuire of duty,” a state police spokesperson said. “This alleged off-duty conduct is deeply concerning and falls far short of the standards of professionalism expected of every member of the Department. As the criminal case and Department disciplinary process continue, we will refrain from further comment.”
