The petitioner argued that air travel is an essential service and that the steep fare hike violates Article 14 of the Constitution. Meanwhile, the apex court is separately hearing a plea seeking an independent aviation regulator and guidelines to prevent unpredictable fluctuations in airfares and additional charges.
